CONCERTS IN THE VILLAGE: CLARINETIST PAUL GREEN – A MASTER IN OUR MIDST – Future CITV Recital Series Announced!

May 13 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

$20

At 3:00pm on Saturday, May 13th in Van Buren Hall, Concerts in the Village (CITV) celebrates the artistry of one of the region’s finest musicians: Clarinetist Paul Green –A Master in our Midst. Also performing will be pianist Doris Stevenson and violinist Elizabeth Silver, in a program of important works by Debussy, Brahms, Poulenc, Bartok and Milhaud.

CITV Artistic Director David Smith comments, “I am absolutely thrilled that Paul will be offering our 52nd concert, and equally so that Doris and Liz will be collaborating. This concert launches what is expected to be a special recital series primarily featuring regionally based virtuoso instrumentalists and singers of the highest caliber. This new series will be coordinated with CITV’s regular season of chamber, orchestral and choral offerings. Concerts will be held in Van Buren Hall, Kinderhook, one of the area’s acoustically finest venues, a space perfectly proportioned and now home to CITV’s concert-quality Steinway grand piano. What could be more important than to celebrate the outstanding talent living right in our midst, as we already do for artists, dancers, authors, and actors.”

The May 13th program includes the Debussy Première Rhapsodie, Brahms Sonata No. 2, Poulenc Sonata, Bartok Romanian Folk Dances for violin, and Milhaud Suite for violin, clarinet and piano.

From his national TV debut at age 13 with Leonard Bernstein on the New York Philharmonic Young People’s Concerts Series to his current status as a master teacher and soloist, clarinetist Paul Green has defined new paths on the concert stage. Grounded and virtuosic in the classical tradition, he has pursued his passion for jazz and followed his yearning to explore the meaning of Jewish music while maintaining his classical concert career. Green’s solo recitals have earned enthusiastic reviews in The New York Times and elsewhere. He has collaborated with the Borromeo, Saint Lawrence, and Ying quartets, and also with cellist Jacqueline Du Pré, flutist Eugenia Zukerman, and pianists Richard Goode, Christopher O’Riley, William Wolfram, and Ursula Oppens. Green has also been an Artistic Ambassador for the United States Information Agency, concertizing in Moldova and the Middle East, and at festivals in Poland, China, Austria, Korea, and Romania. He has been soloist with the Charlotte Philharmonic, Hartford Symphony, the Santo Domingo Music Festival Orchestra, and many others. He has been principal clarinet of CITV’s Broad Street Orchestra, with which he has performed the clarinet concertos of Mozart and Copland, as well as being a member of the Broad Street Chamber Players.

Pianist Doris Stevenson, Artist in Residence at Williams College, has a distinguished performing history. Her collaborators include many of the world’s best-known musicians. Violinist Elizabeth Silver, concertmaster of the Broad Street Orchestra, is a long-time member of the Albany Symphony Orchestra and Glimmerglass Opera Orchestra, and teacher at the Emma Willard School.

To conclude CITV’s 2022-2023 Season, on May 21st the Broad Street Chamber Players welcomes pianist Bethany Pietroniro in major works for piano and winds by Mozart, Louise Farrenc and Poulenc.

Suggested contribution $ 20, with students and children free.
