Saratoga’s Tatu Tacos & Tequila to Open Second Location in Troy

Chef Kareem NeJame is eying a late winter or early spring opening.

When Tatu Tacos & Tequila opened on Maple Avenue in Downtown Saratoga back in 2019, it was an instant hit. The restaurant, which is co-owned by Jennyfur Spaulding and Chef Kareem NeJame, serves—you guessed it—tacos, but with a Yucatecan flair. Dishes include the ever-popular Carnitas Al Pastor Tacos (achiote- and sour orange–marinated slow roasted pork stuffed in a tortilla), Kibito (Japanese fried meatballs), and plenty of plant-based options, such as the Vegetarian Chile Rellenos (a giant poblano stuffed with veggies and rice).

Sound delicious to you? You’re certainly not alone. Tatu has become so popular that its owners are in the process of opening a second location, this one on the first floor of the Vicina, a new apartment complex in Downtown Troy. The new restaurant is projected to open in late winter or early spring, and will be 2,600 square feet with patio seating, NeJame told the Times Union.

“There was a young couple from the Yucatán who dined with us and, of course, we were really hoping to impress them with how their native cuisine was being prepared at Tatu,” Chef NeJame told Capital Region Living‘s sister magazine, Saratoga Living, back in 2020. “Not only were they impressed, but they also went back to their company and insisted everyone come check us out. Needless to say, we were very happy and very thankful for that.”
