Shoppers at Trader Joe’s are almost cultish in their loyalty to the national chain. And right now, Capital Region fans of the grocery store and its branded products have just a single location to worship at, one in Colonie that opened to much fanfare in 2012.
That is, until September 8. That’s when Capital Regionites will get their second Trader’s Joe location in Halfmoon. The new store—located at 3 Halfmoon Crossing, just east of the Halfmoon/Clifton Park border—will mark the first Trader Joe’s in Saratoga County.
“We’ve been interested in opening a store in the Saratoga County area for a while, and both the community and location of Halfmoon proved to be a great fit,” says Trader Joe’s Marketing & Communications Specialist Rachel Broderick. “We’ve been really fortunate to receive such a warm welcome from the neighborhood.”
The approximately 12,500-square-foot store will feature colorful artwork that pays tribute to area landmarks and local lore, including the Twin Bridges, Saratoga County’s famed apple orchards and various wildlife native to the shores of the Mohawk and Hudson Rivers.
With the addition of the new Trader Joe’s, that also means more local jobs. As the grocery store chain notes, more than 80 percent of the employees (nearly 75 crew members) hired at the Halfmoon store are from the neighborhood, and they still have hiring efforts underway.
