Giving back has never been more important
I am pleased to be writing for Capital Region Living magazine on topics interesting and hopefully informative to the readership. Throughout the year we’ll discuss important local legal matters and open up the mailbag to answer your questions. In upcoming issues you’ll also meet a number of the attorneys at the E. Stewart Jones Law Firm, who, like myself, were born and raised here in the Capital Region. We all share a passion to improve the quality of life and make the communities in which we live a great place to work, play and raise a family.
For those not familiar with the E. Stewart Jones Law Firm, it was founded by my grandfather, Abbott Jones, in historic downtown Troy in 1898. My father, E. Stewart Jones, Sr., grew the firm and along with my brother Farley, we’ve provided the region with exceptional legal service for more than 113 years. I’m proud to say that since the beginning two things have remained constant: our downtown Troy address and a strong belief in giving back to the community. This month’s issue of CRL highlights local non-profit organizations and I’d like to take this opportunity to talk about the importance of giving back.
Considering the holidays are just behind us, the idea of giving may still be on our minds. There are hundreds of non-profits in the greater Capital Region and I would dare to say there is an organization out there for each and every charitable cause you can think of. I can guarantee every one of them needs more volunteers, greater financial support and dedicated leaders in the community to help make their mission a reality.
Many local non-profits do an outstanding job with very limited resources, but they need our support throughout the year, not just the holiday season. More than ever, we need to step up and become good community citizens. So, with so many choices, how do you decide which non-profit to pledge your time, treasure and talent to? My advice is to follow your heart. What causes are meaningful to you and your family? Would you like to make a positive impact on the lives of others? Get involved individually or make it a family affair and I assure you that you’ll get far more out of it than what you put in.
My one request to our readers for 2011 is to please consider supporting a local community organization with a financial donation or volunteer your time to a cause that has a personal meaning to your life. Please realize that every effort makes a difference and no donation is too small. Everything we do to improve the lives of those around us matters greatly to someone in need. Start today.
